INDEPENDENT AND COMMUNITY MIDWIVES, INDEMNITY INSURANCE
I refer to the withdrawal in Western Australia of professional indemnity insurance cover from independent and community midwives, a move that has the potential to limit the birthing choices available to women. (1) Has the minister discussed this important women’s issue with the Minister for Health? (2) Has the minister sought to meet with community and independent midwives to help them resolve this issue? Ms McHALE

I thank the member for his question and for raising this issue, albeit belatedly. However, I am curious that he has referred this matter to me when it would have been more appropriately directed to the relevant minister with responsibility for midwifery. I thank the member for his interest in this matter, but perhaps he has not realised that it would be more fruitful if he directed his question to the relevant minister.
