Advance health directives—Register
1093. Hon Nick Goiran to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the years
of delay in creating a register for advance health directives.
(1) Is the minister aware of the Standing
Committee on Legislation's 24th finding in its 48th report of November 2020
that the department had advised that a central register of advance health
directives was anticipated to commence in late 2021 or early 2022?
(2) Is she aware of Hon Stephen Dawson's statement
during debate on the Guardianship and Administration Amendment (Medical
Research) Bill 2023 that development on the register "is happening now"?
(3) Is she aware that during the 2023–24
budget estimates, it was revealed that more than $242,000 had been spent
preparing this register?
(4) Does the parliamentary secretary recall
telling the house in October 2024 that significant progress had been made?
(5) Does the register exist?

I thank the
honourable Leader of the Opposition for some notice of the question. The
following answer has been provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(4) Yes. Significant progress has been
made to ensure a joined-up approach to coordinating and supporting people to
make advance health directives. This answer did not relate specifically to
progress of a centralised register of advance health directives.
(5) Since 2018, consumers have been able to upload
their advance health directives into their My Health Record for health
professionals to access when required.
