The Minister Replied:
(1) Based on financial years the Education Department budgetary allocation to the Churches Commission on Education to assist with the provision of Chaplains in government schools has been:
1992/1993 - $ 35 000
1993/1994 - $ 61 000
1994/1995 - $ 82 000
1995/1996 - $ 90 000
1996/1997 - $ 90 000
1997/1998 - $ 90 000
1998/1999 - $100 000
1999/2000 - $150 000
2000/2001 - $200 000
In 1998/1999, 1999/2000 and 2000/2001, the Office of Youth Affairs has contributed an additional $50 000 annually.
(2) Since 1993 the Churches Commission on Education has engaged the following numbers of chaplains:
1993 - 45
1994 - 52
1995 - 63
1996 - 66
1997 - 68
1998 - 67
1999 - 78
2000 - 86
