I understand that certain species of shark, rays and other marine species are the responsibility of the state government under an offshore constitutional agreement. Is the state required to meet any sustainability standards or management guidelines for those species under those agreements? Hon JON FORD

I thank the member for the question. The state government is responsible under management agreements with the commonwealth for managing a number of fisheries. The management standards depend on the fishery, including whether it is a domestic or export species. The normal management controls, such as ascertaining the total allowable catch and the acceptable calculation of the biomass, are taken into account. I will take the question on notice and supply the honourable member with details of all those fisheries, if she is interested.
