DEPARTMENT OF MINES AND PETROLEUM — FREEDOM OF INFORMATION APPLICATION
I refer to my freedom of information access application to the Department of Regional Development and Lands in relation to the royalties for regions program, which was in part transferred to the Department of Mines and Petroleum. (1) For the financial year 2009–10, what royalties income was paid to the state by development commission region? (2) In relation to (1), why was this information calculated for the 2008–09 financial year and not for the 2009–10 financial year? (3) For what purpose was the calculation undertaken in the 2008–09 financial year? (4) In relation to the 2008–09 financial year calculation released under freedom of information, what “confidentiality issues” prevented the Department of Mines and Petroleum from advising the geographical areas included in the “other” category? Hon NORMAN MOORE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)–(3) The royalty information was made available by region for 2008–09 on request from the Department of Regional Development and Lands. The Department of Mines and Petroleum has not calculated the information for the financial year 2009–10 as it is complex and time consuming and is not normally undertaken. (4) It is not possible to advise the geographical areas included in the “other” category, as confidential royalty payment information for individual projects would then be revealed, and is considered exempt from disclosure under clause 4 of the Freedom of Information Act.
