WITTENOOM — GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES
861. Hon WILSON TUCKER to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Lands:
I refer to the answers I was
provided to my question without notice asked on 20 September regarding the
eviction and removal of Wittenoom resident Lorraine Thomas on 8 September.
(1) For the four
attending government employees, will the minister please provide their roles
and respective agencies?
(2) Did the
government request the attendance of St John Ambulance, the Sheriff's
Office, the WA Police Force or any other authority, service provider or agency?
(3) If yes to
(2), will the minister please provide the roles of those attending and their
respective agencies?
(4) If yes to (2), are the costs of those attending
included in the approximate total costs provided by the minister?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) Given there
were contractors on site to begin decommissioning works, two officers from the
Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage's property and risk
management team attended to oversee the works and to take possession of the
properties.
Two appointed deputy sheriffs from
the Department of Justice attended to serve warrants for possession for the
properties that were subject to compulsory acquisition.
(2) Yes, St John
Ambulance officers were requested to attend the site. WA police were notified
and on standby if required but did not attend the site.
(3) Noting the
age and other associated considerations of the last remaining resident, two St
John Ambulance officers attended the site.
(4) No, as St John Ambulance is not
a government agency.
