(3) The Department for Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) is proposing to partner with academic institutions and the private sector in a three year "Electric Vehicle Recharging" project. This project will provide valuable information enabling participants to more accurately gauge the overall infrastructure requirements likely to be associated with the future introduction of electric vehicles in Perth. DPI will contribute $100,000 in cash and in-kind support for the project, subject to the project successfully receiving matching funding under the Australian Research Council's Linkage Grants program.
The WA Government is also working with other jurisdictions at the national level on measures to improve vehicle fuel efficiency and encourage the uptake of alternative fuels and vehicle technology. A joint working group of the Australian Transport Council (ATC) and the Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EPHC) has prepared a report which canvasses a range of initiatives in this area, including the provision of financial incentives for low emissions vehicles. The WA Government will consider the implementation of further measures in this area following consideration of the ATC/EPHC working group report by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) later this year.
