(3) Tourism Western Australia advertises Western Australia's natural assets including unspoilt and pristine environment, aquatic and coastal scenery, and natural wonders to prospective Chinese visitors using print media, public relations, online platforms and a Mandarin language website. The agency's advertising is tailored to appeal to and reach appropriate target markets.
The Liberal National Government has a demonstrated commitment to protecting Western Australia’s natural environments, which supports our nature-based tourism industry. The maintenance of our world renowned biological diversity and environments is underpinned by an effective terrestrial and marine conservation reserves system.
The Kimberley Science and Conservation Strategy is delivering substantial expansions to conservation reserves to ensure the significant values of the Kimberley are afforded statutory protection. The Government is committed to new marine parks at Roebuck Bay, Horizontal Falls and the North Kimberley, which are planned to be created by the end of the year. Marine parks at Camden Sound and Eighty Mile Beach have already been established. Creation of all of the proposed marine parks will increase the total area of the State’s marine parks and reserves from approximately 1.5 million hectares to over five million hectares since the Government came to office in 2008; more than a 200 per cent increase. The Blueprint for Marine Science Initiative - Implementation Strategy 2016-18 aims to allow commercial and recreational marine activities to grow while sustaining the ecological values of the marine environment, and to improve industry and community confidence in the sustainable development of Western Australia's marine environment. It also aims to improve efficiency in compliance and infrastructure and position Western Australia as a globally renowned hub focused on marine science and innovation. In addition, the Government’s Parks for People Caravan and Camping initiative is improving and expanding camping and associated visitor experiences in national parks and reserves through a $21 million investment. It provides for visitor facilities and services including the establishment of affordable camping and caravan accommodation, walk, bike and drive trails, and the creation of interpretation information including mobile and desktop applications for protected areas across the State.
