(a) The State Government, through the Department of Sport and Recreation, and with the support of the Federal Government, provides substantial funding to indigenous sport and recreation programs and associated infrastructure throughout the State.
The State's Indigenous Sport Program provides a wide range of participation and development opportunities throughout its state-wide network of 11 Indigenous Sport Development officers.
An Indigenous Sport Development Officer, located in Karratha, visits Tom Price and is in regular contact with Gumala, the local Indigenous Organisation to develop sport and recreation opportunities for young indigenous community members.
Discussions with Gumala continue over the appointment of an Aboriginal Sports Development Officer for Tom Price.
Other opportunities include the Active After School Communities national program and club development initiatives in partnership with the Shire of Ashburton.
