I thank the member for the question. It is very appropriate, given that today the government introduced amendments to the Community Protection (Offender Reporting) Act. That means that the coverage will be extended and made even more effective. I am advised by the police that 1 099 people are currently being monitored by the Western Australia Police under the Australian National Child Offender Register, or ANCOR. To date, 83 of those 1 099 have been charged with breaches of the current legislation, such as failure to report or to update details such as residential address. It is estimated that, with the extension and tightening up of these provisions, perhaps another 15 or 20 people will be caught and placed on the ANCOR and become subject to reporting procedures. In this area, as in the area of cyber predators, the police have been very successful in making sure that the community is safe from people who have committed sexual offences. The legislation introduced today will further ensure that the people of Western Australia, particularly children, are safeguarded through the laws and the actions of our police. Mr M.J. Cowper interjected. The SPEAKER : I call the member for Murray to order for the first time. Mr M.J. Cowper interjected. The SPEAKER : I call the member for Murray to order for the second time.
