I refer to the answer to question without notice 510, provided on Thursday, 29 May. Will the minister provide a detailed explanation of the phrase “the only difference is in the number of records provided each month”; and, if not, why not? Hon SUE ELLERY

I thank the member for some notice of this question. Magenta Linas Software Pty Ltd receives a complete elector file every month, comprising about 1.3 million individual elector records, which is the number of electors on the state electoral roll. CSG Ltd chooses to receive a complete elector file only when it loads new electoral district boundaries, usually every four years, and subsequently maintains the currency of this data by receiving monthly changes that add, delete and alter individual elector details. These changes average about 7 000 individual elector records per month. As previously indicated in the answer to question without notice 510, both contractors receive identical information in terms of the data provided.
