DROUGHT —
SOUTHERN RANGELANDS — FARMERS ACROSS BORDERS
1011. Mr V.A. CATANIA to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Why is the Premier dragging his heels in response to this drought crisis, which
by his own admission is very serious and needs to be treated as such? Why is he
not treating it seriously?

On a number of occasions this week,
I have outlined to the house a range of things the state government is doing
about drought, particularly across the southern rangelands. I will not repeat
them all because there is a huge number of initiatives and opportunities for
assistance that pastoralists can obtain from the commonwealth. Rather than go
down to the member's level of politicising this issue, I repeat: all
sorts of assistance is available through the Department of Primary Industries and
Regional Development and through the commonwealth and government offices, in
particular, from DPIRD visiting and meeting with farmers to advise them of the
assistance available.
