I refer the Minister to question on notice 1647 and I ask -
(1) How many Government buildings in Western Australia use R22 refrigerant?
(2) Is refrigerant R22 a mixture of hydroflourocarbons (HFCs) and hydrocarbons?
(3) Has R22 refrigerant been lost to the atmosphere in 2005 or 2006?
(4) Are the hydroflourocarbons used in these air conditioning units only recommended to be used in ambient temperatures up to 36 degrees Celsius?
(5) Are new air conditioning systems being sold on the Australian market when, due to environmental or health specifications, they cannot be sold in many other countries in the world?
(6) Are HFC refrigerants banned in other countries in the world?
(7) How many Homeswest houses in Western Australia currently contain asbestos and what is the average age of those houses?

(1) The Department of Housing and Works does not manage all State Government buildings but of those it does manage 27 are applicable to Question 1. (2)-(6) Not applicable (7) The Department is confident that properties constructed after 1990 have no asbestos containing material in their construction. The ratio of homes containing asbestos is similar to private homes constructed prior to this time. It is estimated that about 21,000 may have some asbestos containing material in elements such as eave linings, fencing, electrical switchboard panels etc.
