DUNGEON YOUTH CENTRE
I refer to the Dungeon Youth Centre in Ballajura that has, since January this year, had to reduce its opening hours from five days to four hours a week and the former minister’s statement in the Eastern Suburbs Reporter on 26 December 2006 in which he stated, “The message has been well heard - what is really needed is recurrent funding.” (1) Is the government considering recurrent funding of the centre, as suggested by the former minister; and, if not, why not? (2) Has the minister made a decision on the centre’s current application for funding? If yes, what is the minister’s decision and, if not, when will the minister make a decision on the centre’s application? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) The Dungeon Youth Centre submitted an application for special project grant funding through the Office for Children and Youth on 27 February 2007. The application is currently being assessed and the recommendation will be made in the near future. There is no capacity to provide recurrent funding through the youth portfolio.
