(a) The existing passing lane is being extended some 600 metres south of its current location as part of the proposed works. Land constraints precluding its extension any further south as part of this project include private development on the left hand side, and expensive construction required on the right hand side due to the creek, vegetation and required earthworks. Additional extension of this passing lane cannot be justified at this stage given its high cost and as it will now extend to near the foot of the hill, the benefit of any extension is considered marginal.
(b) Yes. As advised in the letter referred to the existing passing lane is being extended as part of the current works south of its current location which will take it past the 208 kilometre peg to near the foot of the hill.
