Given that from the 1960’s and 1970’s onwards, many metropolitan and country Local Councils mandated that building structures such as verandas, and the supporting ballustrading that extended to the street-side especially on major intersections, should be removed for reasons of road traffic sight-lines and pedestrian safety and given that since that time the risks from the volume of traffic has increased, from the top speed of vehicles has increased, from the size of vehicles has increased and from the number of pedestrians has increased with population growth, I ask -
(1) Is the Minister aware of any studies, research or other data that suggests the abovementioned risks have been reduced sufficiently for these structures to be re-instated?
(2) Is the Minister’s department aware of any studies, research or other data that suggests it is safe for these structures to be re-instated?
