The Department of Water has provided the following response:
(a) There are no apprentices currently employed by the Department of Water (DoW).
(b) There is one trainee currently employed by the DoW
(c) Yes, there are three vacant trainee positions that will be filled.
(d) Currently, there are no proposed increases.
(e) There are no funds allocated to recruit more participants.
(i) The current structure of divisions within the DoW is under review.
There may be scope to provide funding at a later date.
(f) No.
(i) The potential to recruit more participants for traineeships in 2009-10 will be evaluated by the DoW as part of its detailed business planning for 2009-10 which will occur in March and April this year.
For Water Corporation:
(a) 40 (24 in 2008 with an additional 16 commencing in 2009).
(b) 59.
(31 Water Industry Trainees in 2008 with an additional 12 commencing in 2009).
(11 Engineering Associate Trainees).
( 3 Business Administration [Office] Trainees).
( 2 School Based Trainees).
(c) Yes.
(d) Apprentices: 1; Trainees: 8.
This is part of the 2008/09 apprentice and trainee intake of 17 apprentices and 20 trainees.

Traineeships $1,300,000
Apprenticeships $ 820,000
Engineering Associate Trainees $ 360,000
