Not everything is
being done. I think it is incredible that the member for Kalamunda has asked me
a question about community safety today when not 24 hours ago in this place, he
and every member of the opposition voted to gut our safer gun laws. The member
cannot have it both ways. Seriously! The member is talking about community
safety, but last night the opposition voted to rip apart our safer gun laws.
Ms Rita Saffioti interjected.
Mr Reece Whitby: Indeed—which the police
support.
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Members!
Mr Reece Whitby: I can understand the member for
Mindarie's angst over there at the back. He is a former police officer who
served this community. He knows the risks that police officers face, the dangers
of firearms and why our firearms laws are essential. If the opposition wants to
be taken seriously, and if it is serious about community safety, it should be
consistent. At least the member for Kalamunda spoke up last night—every
other of his Liberal colleagues did not. Even worse, the Leader of the
Opposition in this chamber did not say a word. If the opposition took community
safety seriously—

Mr Reece Whitby: It is the pantomime show. We are
missing the former member for Mandurah, but we have a new act! Take it
seriously.
The Speaker: That concludes question time.
