INDEPENDENT PUBLIC SCHOOLS — FUNDING TEACHERS’ LEAVE
I refer the minister to the government’s independent public schools. (1) What independence do independent public schools have with sick leave or teacher relief moneys? (2) Are schools able to pool teacher relief money or money usually designated to cover sickness or carer’s leave and use it for professional development or other purposes? Dr E. CONSTABLE

(1)–(2) As the member for Midland will know, the independent public schools initiative is one that gives autonomy to schools and a one-line budget to organise and run the financial affairs of their school. I do not know the answer to the detail of the question, except to say that individual schools have a one-line budget that they can organise to spend in the way they see fit and that is right and proper for their school.
