WA NATIONAL DISABILITY
INSURANCE SCHEME — MY WAY TRIAL — ELIGIBILITY ASSESSMENTS
986. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the
Minister for Disability Services:
I refer to support for people with
disability in Western Australia.
(1) Does the WA National
Disability Insurance Scheme fund functional assessments for eligibility to the
scheme?
(2) If no to (1),
what measures are in place to ensure that Western Australians on low incomes
who cannot afford assessments have equal access to the scheme?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) Yes. Local
area coordination teams, which include personnel with allied health
qualifications, assess functional capacity to inform WA NDIS eligibility
determinations. Diagnostic assessments for intellectual disability and autism
spectrum disorder can be provided by the Disability Services Commission, when
required, for WA NDIS eligibility determinations. Other diagnostic assessments
to inform WA NDIS eligibility determinations are provided by other service
systems, including the Department of Health and the Mental Health Commission,
or private providers.
(2) Not applicable.
