Housing—National Rental Affordability Scheme
146. Hon Philip Scott to
the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Housing and Works:
I refer to today's
ABC article about 76-year-old pensioner Bill Turner, who is at risk of
homelessness because the National Rental Affordability Scheme subsidy is ending
for the property he has lived in.
(1) What specific measures are in place
to assist those living in NRAS properties so that they do not face a rental
price spike when the scheme ends on 30 June?
(2) Bill Turner is one of 2,258 Western
Australians aged over 67 on the public housing waitlist, so can the minister
outline how record population growth fuelled by mass immigration will assist to
reduce this waitlist?
The President: That question might be seeking a
significant amount of information. We will see if the minister is able to
provide it.

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Housing and Works.
(1)–(2) NRAS was a federal government scheme
subsidising private development that was ceased for new builds by the former
Liberal–National federal government. Tenants may be eligible for a range of
services and supports dependent on their individual circumstances and are
encouraged to complete a housing options assessment.
