I refer to the Minister’s answer to question on notice No.1439, which was answered on 30 March 2010, in which the Minister advised that information on the number of Western Australians waiting for a palliative care bed is not available, and I ask -
(1) Will the Minister initiate the collation of such information for the purpose of enhancing planning for the appropriate provision of palliative care beds?
(2) If no to (1), why not?

(1 & 2) The process of future planning of palliative care beds and additional palliative care service models is being undertaken by Clinical Planners within the Department of Health in conjunction with the Palliative Care Network. The information available within the public sector does not provide the complete picture of palliative care. Palliative care specialist services are mainly operated by the private sector with contractual arrangements with the Department of Health to provide a predetermined number of public bed days or occasions of service per year. Private palliative care beds are also available within contracted organisations.
