With regards to clearing of land since July 1 2004, when the new regulations came into force, I ask the Minister -
(1) How much land in Metropolitan Region Scheme area has been cleared since July 1 2004, when the new regulations came into force?
(2) How much land in the Peel Region Scheme area has been cleared since July 1 2004, when the new regulations came into force?
(3) How much of the land described in (1), has been cleared under exemptions?
(4) How much of the land described in (2), has been cleared under exemptions?
(5) How much land has been cleared in total in Western Australia?

The Minister for the Environment; Science has provided the following response: (1-3) The information being sought is not readily available. Administrative processes and analytical methods which will provide information about the extent of native vegetation cleared in the Metropolitan Region Scheme are currently being considered by the relevant government agencies. (2-4) The information being sought is not readily available . Administrative processes and analytical methods which will provide information about the extent of native vegetation cleared in the Peel Region Scheme is currently being considered by the relevant government agencies. (5) Since 8 July 2004 and up until 28 June 2005, 9,948 hectares have been granted through clearing permits under the clearing provisions of the Environmental Protection Act 1986. However, only a portion of that amount was cleared in the period as many of the applications granted are for projects to be implemented over a number of years.
