MOURAMBINE KARIYARRA — HERITAGE SITES
182. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs:
I refer to the registration of
Mourambine Kariyarra sites 1 to 14 and the Minister for Indigenous Affairs'
answer to question without notice 943 on 13 November 2012.
(1) How many
lodged or reported sites are currently awaiting assessment by the Aboriginal
Cultural Material Committee—ACMC?
(2) What is the
average waiting time for an assessment to be done by the ACMC once a site or
area of interest has been lodged or reported?
(3) When will Mourambine
Kariyarra sites 1 to 14 go before the ACMC for evaluation?
(4) Why do the
Mourambine Kariyarra sites 1 to 14 not appear in the Department of Aboriginal
Affairs' Aboriginal heritage inquiry system as ''Insufficient
information, awaiting ACMC assessment''?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) There are 14
Mourambine Kariyarra sites awaiting assessment by the ACMC.
(2) All sites
submitted are assessed on an individual basis. The time taken to assess each
site depends on the quality of the information provided in the submissions.
(3) Evaluation of
all 14 sites will be dependent on the ACMC monthly agenda.
(4) The sites
information will appear following the appropriate assessment process by the
ACMC.
