Emergency helicopters—Procurement
371. Hon Julie Freeman to
the minister representing the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to question
without notice 899, asked by Hon Martin Aldridge in August last year, regarding
the purchase of three new Leonardo AW139 rescue helicopters for Western
Australia.
(1) Noting a now 18-month delay in the final two
helicopters being operational, when will they be online and available to assist
WA residents?
(2) What is the cause of the delay in these
helicopters becoming operational?
(3) What is the current total cost of the
acquisition and commissioning of all three helicopters, including any
additional costs incurred due to delays?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me
by the Minister for Emergency Services.
(1) All three Leonardo AW139 rescue helicopters
have commenced operations.
(2) Delays were experienced due to aviation
regulatory processes, global and interstate supply chain disruptions and
engineering labour shortages experienced by the industry.
(3) It is $26.7 million. No additional costs were
incurred.
