I refer to my question without notice No. 754 regarding the Wungong Catchment Thinning Trial initially due to run from 2005 to 2017 and the response that the continuation of this trial is now under review, and I ask -
(1) Why is the continuation of this trial under review?
(2) What factors are being considered in the review of this trial?
(3) How much of the original $20 million budgeted for this trial has been spent?

(1) The review takes account of the learning to date from the initial thinning operation that shows insufficient yield of water against the costs expended; that is, the Wungong Catchment Trial does not meet the financial criteria of the original business case.
(2) The primary issue under consideration by the Water Corporation is how to continue with the trial. The factors under consideration include intensity of operation, areas affected and the approvals process.
(3) The expenditure to 30 June 2011 was $9.5 million.
