ADHD—GP training
163. Hon Peter Collier to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the Labor
government election promise to amend regulations to enable general practitioners
to both diagnose and prescribe treatment for ADHD in adults and children aged over
10 years.
(1) Has the ADHD training for general practitioners
been developed?
(2) If yes to (1), who designed it and how much
funding has been allocated?
(3) If yes to (1), what are the training
requirements, who will deliver it and how will any required supervision be
funded given the shortage of specialists?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following has been
provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(3) The Royal Australian College of
General Practitioners (RACGP) designed the training program in consultation
with the Department of Health. The RACGP will deliver the training program in
collaboration with specialists in paediatrics and psychiatry. Additional
information on the rollout of the program will be available in due course.
