OUTAGES
1157. Hon SOPHIA MOERMOND to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Energy:
I
refer to the blackouts that left thousands of Western Australian homes and
businesses without power during 2023–24.
(1) How many times did Western Power respond to widespread
power outages that resulted from weather-related activity during 2023–24?
(2) What was the average time taken
to restore power?
(3) What was the total claimed
through the extended outage claim?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. On behalf of the Minister for Energy, I provide
the following answer.
(1) Western Power responded to
seven significant weather-related events in 2023–24.
(2) For
significant weather events, excluding those between 13 January and 18 January
2024, the average restoration time was four
hours. The average restoration time for the period 13 January to 18 January
2024 could not be calculated in the
time available. The member may wish to place this part of the question on
notice.
(3) The answer to this question is in tabular form. I seek
leave to have the response incorporated into Hansard .
