Uranium mining—Chamber
of Commerce and Industry report
934. Hon Philip Scott to
the minister representing the Minister for
Mines and Petroleum:
Last year the
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia provided its findings
from a 12-month inquiry that found that, based on the price of uranium at the
time, WA has the potential to export around $1 billion worth of uranium
annually, creating 9,000 jobs in this state. I ask the following in light of
these findings.
(1) Has the government conducted its own
investigation into how much export revenue WA's uranium mining industry would
generate if the government's ban on uranium mines were to be lifted?
(2) Can the government provide the house with the
justification for the ban on new uranium mines to be kept in place
indefinitely?
