263. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
(1) Is the
minister aware of recent local reports of increased rates of speeding through
the Gidgegannup town site, particularly by trucks during school times?
(2) If yes to (1),
what strategies have been put in place to urgently investigate and address
these road safety issues on Toodyay Road?
(3) If no to (1),
will the minister commit to urgently investigating the matter and ensuring road
safety on Toodyay Road, Gidgegannup?
(4) Is it
accurate that there are no vehicle–activated speed signs available to
be installed along this section of Toodyay Road?
(5) Is it
accurate that the only available vehicle–activated speed signs are
currently in use and will not be available for use on Toodyay Road for 12
months?

(4)–(5) Main
Roads is currently trialling vehicle–activated speed signs at a number
of locations. When the trial is completed later this year, Main Roads will
assess the effectiveness of this device on driver behaviour and consider
locations where it may be applicable.
