The Federal Government has now changed the whole basis for allocating Federal road funds and RONI funding has now been abolished as part of the new Auslink program. The State is continuing to provide funding for progressing the planning development components of the Peel Deviation and Kwinana Freeway extension with the intention of submitting a revised funding application to the Commonwealth by late 2004. Providing the State receives Federal funding assistance, the earliest that construction could realistically commence would be in 2008. (2) The New MetroRail Project includes: - The Fast Direct Route from Rockingham and Mandurah to Perth; - The extension of the Northern Suburbs Railway from Currambine to Clarkson; - A spur line to Thornlie; - The purchase of 93 new railcars. Services to Rockingham and Waikiki are planned to commence by December 2006. Services to Mandurah are planned to commence by December 2007.
