Notes:
Data is provisional and subject to revision.
Figures are a count of people and infringement notices issued for ‘Mobile Phone Offences’ under the Road Traffic Code 2000, section 265, where the incident occurred between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2018 (inclusive).
Figures are based on the most up-to-date information captured in the Image and Infringement Processing System (IIPS).
Figures for (b) are calculated based on an individual receiving more than one infringement notice for using a mobile phone while driving within each individual year.
Figures for (c) are calculated based on an individual receiving greater or equal to five infringement notices for using a mobile phone while driving within each individual year.
Unique persons are determined using the SID number.
Age of infringement notice recipient is calculated at the time the incident occurred.
Figures for (e) are a count of unique persons issued with a mobile phone infringement notice by age and year. As such, if a person’s age changes brackets within the same year, they will be counted against each relevant age bracket or if a person received multiple infringement notices over the 5 year period, they would be counted against each relevant year.
Figures in (e) may not equal total figures in (a), (b) and (c) due to recipients being younger than 18 years or of unknown age.
Figures exclude infringements that have been withdrawn or cancelled.
