❓ A parliamentary question addresses the closure of a forgery investigation involving the office of the Liberal member for Southern River, fingerprint samples, and potential charges. The Minister's response confirms the investigation's closure due to insufficient evidence, that fingerprint samples were requested, and that the member complied while the electorate officer declined.

I refer to claims on Paul Murray’s program on 6PR this morning that police sources had confirmed that the forgery investigation involving the office of the Liberal member for Southern River had been closed, and that the member and her electorate officer had refused to give fingerprint samples to police. (1) Has the investigation been closed or is it continuing? (2) If it has been closed, why? (3) Have any charges been laid; and if so, what charges, and against whom have they been laid? (4) Were the member for Southern River and her electorate officer asked to give fingerprint samples? (5) If so, did they provide those samples or did they refuse? Mr PRINCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question, and I have answers supplied by the police. (1) The police investigation has been closed. (2) The available evidence is insufficient to identify the author of the letter, and the police investigation can proceed only on further information coming to hand. (3) No charges have been preferred. (4) Yes. (5) The member for Southern River provided her fingerprints. The electorate officer declined to provide fingerprints. I table a report from the Commissioner of Police on these matters. [See paper No 357.]
