TEACHER SALARIES — DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING ADVERTISING
I refer the minister to the two Department of Education and Training advertisements on pages 49 and 54 of the Sunday Times on 2 March 2008 and to his response to question without notice 126 asked on Tuesday, 11 March, 2008. (1) Are the printed figures for teachers’ salaries in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales based on the equivalent figure for Western Australian salaries; that is, senior teacher 2? (2) If no to (1), what is the current teachers’ salary equivalent in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales in comparison with their senior teacher 2 Western Australian counterparts? (3) If no to (1), why was a comparison made between the different salary levels of Western Australian teachers and the other four states? (4) With reference to the advertisement on page 54 of the Sunday Times and question without notice 126, is the message misleading because it implies that all teachers will be on a salary of $84 357 by February 2008? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes, the salaries are correct based on teachers’ salaries at the ninth year of service. (2)-(3) Not applicable. (4) No. The advertisement expressly states that the Western Australian new offer salary of $84 357 would be the new base pay for a senior teacher 2 by February 2011.
