SENIORS —
CONCESSION FUNDING
480. Ms M.M. QUIRK to the
Minister for Seniors and Volunteering:
I have a supplementary question. Given what the Minister for
Seniors and Volunteering said on Friday, is it the case that he was saying one
thing to a vulnerable and anxious group on Friday or was he just being kept in
the dark?

There has been a lot of conversation about this decision. The
member for Girrawheen asked last Tuesday what is happening and what is going to
happen to the Seniors Card. It is a long process. I must admit that for the
last three and a half weeks we have been working with seniors and looking at
all the concessions we give out and how best we can make it work.
Ms M.M. Quirk : You
said one thing at the forum and you did another thing on the Monday.
Mr A.J. SIMPSON :
And I made it quite clear that I am trying to protect those in our community.
We call them pensioners, because they receive a pension from the commonwealth
government. We are obligated then to give them a concession through a raft of
discounts with that concession card.
Ms
M.M. Quirk : You were kept out of the loop; admit it.
Mr
A.J. SIMPSON : The important thing is that we protect them in our community.
They still get those concessions. They get over 16 concessions through that
card. The important thing is that we are trying to protect them where we can.
