1185. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the Minister for Agriculture and
Food:
(1) How many
trees infected by the polyphagous shot-hole borer—PHSB—have
been identified in the quarantine area?
(2) How many
trees infected by the PHSB have been removed in the quarantine area?
(3) How long, on
average, between identification of an infected tree and its removal?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) The number of
trees is 4 920.
(2) There have
been 3 679 trees removed and a further 953 trees have been pruned.
(3) The
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development aims to remove trees
within 30 days of being identified, noting that the time to removal varies,
based on a number of factors including location, level of infestation, public
safety considerations, approval requirements and whether the tree is on private
or public land.
