Housing—Metronet stations
1083. Hon Simon Ehrenfeld to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Lands:
I refer to the
article in The West Australian of 15 November
2025 titled "John Carey announces reforms to sideline councils and build
35,000 new Perth high-rise apartments".
(1) What is the approximate break-up of the 35,000
homes around each of the 10 proposed stations?
(2) In general terms, why were these stations
chosen over other transport sites that have been earmarked for high density by
their respective local governments?
(3) Approximately how many multi-dwelling
residential projects have already been completed around Metronet stations in
the past three years?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. The following has been provided to me by the Minister for
Planning and Lands.
(1)–(3) The Cook Labor government is
committed to increasing housing diversity and supply across the state. As
identified by the Grattan Institute, low-density controls dominate most
well-located residential land in Perth, with 92% of residential land within 30 kilometres
of the CBD limited to two storeys or less. Development within transit-oriented
precincts has been identified by successive governments, including former
Liberal–National governments, as the best place for increased density.
Infrastructure is always considered as part of the planning process.
