With reference to Ord Stage Two, and the 1995 Concept Engineering Study by Kinhills, I ask -
(1) What was estimated as the original area of the Ord Stage Two development?
(2) What is the current estimated area of the Ord Stage Two development?
(3) Have recent surveys been carried out by Geoscience Australia over the proposed area outlined in (2)?
(4) Did this survey identify the presence of perched salt stores in the Ord Stage Two area?
(5) In no to (4), what did the Geoscience Australia survey identify?
(6) What area of the proposed new irrigated land is subject to the salt stores identified by Geoscience Australia?
(7) What impact will the salt stores identified by Geoscience Australia have on development of the current Ord Stage Two area?
(8) Will the Minister table a copy of the Geoscience Australia Report?

Department of State Development advises:
(1) Approximately 76,000 hectares.
(2) The current focus is on developing 8,000 hectares of irrigated land for agriculture with a 10,450 hectare buffer on the Weaber Plain.
(3) Yes.
(4) The survey identified areas of potential salt stores in the soil.
(5) Not applicable.
(6) The report indicated that on the Weaber Plain the area classified as moderate to high hazard was estimated at 5% of the farmlands area.
(7) Salt stores are not expected to have a detrimental sustainability impact on the development because appropriate ground water management strategies are being implemented.
(8) The report is already publicly available from Geoscience Australia.
