I refer to the Premier of China's visit to Western Australia, and I ask: (a) Was the Chinese Premier provided a security detail by Western Australian Police Force; (b) What was the total police officer hours and cost associated with security services related to the Chinese Premier's visit; and (c) Will the State Government seek reimbursement of these costs from the Chinese Government or the Australian Government?

The Western Australia Police Force advise:
(a) Yes, as the head of Government and the leader of the State Council, Mr Li Qiang holds a prominent position in China’s political hierarchy, second only to the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, President Xi Jinping. During his visit, Mr Qiang was afforded Guest of Government status by the Commonwealth Government.
(b) Hours: 8,090

(c) No, the primary operational responsibility for law enforcement and public order during a head of Government visit rests with the state police, in accordance with the Crimes (Internationally Protected Persons) Act 1976. The Australian Federal Police Visitors Assessment Group rated Mr Qiang’s visit as ‘significant’.
