(1) I refer to clause 5.7 of the current contract with St John Ambulance, and
I ask: (a) will the Minister table ISO9001; and (b) if no to (a), why not? (2) Why is St John Ambulance required to comply with ISO9001 for the
provision of the service in the Metropolitan Perth area, yet is only required
to use best endeavours to apply the principles of ISO9001 to the service in
country Western Australia? (3) In view of the Independent Oversight Panel’s report finding the culture
at St John Ambulance is toxic and dysfunctional, is the Minister satisfied St
John Ambulance has complied with its requirements under clauses 5.7 to 5.12 of
the current contract?

(1)(a-b) ISO 9001 is an international quality standard available through commercial purchase. Further details can be found at: http://www.iso.org/
(2) St John Ambulance demonstrates compliance with ISO9001 through third party auditing and certification. Clause 5.7 provides for best practice in quality management systems without necessitating third party auditing across rural sites, which is considered to be cost prohibitive and not representing value for money.
(3) The WA Ambulance Standing Committee between St John Ambulance and the Department of Health will discuss and monitor the implementation of recommendations contained in the Independent Oversight Panel review, including any implications relevant to clauses 5.7 to 5.12 of the current contract.
