RAIL LINES —
COMMENCEMENT
991. Ms L. METTAM to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Does the Premier now understand why the people of Western Australia are angry
that major job-creating projects still have not commenced after almost three
years of his government?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members on my
right!

AnswerView source ↗

I do not know whether the member
drives around Western Australia, but when people drive down the freeways, they
see roadworks. The government has a record road program. In fact, I was at a road
project in the member's own electorate the other day. I was visiting a project
there but the member for Vasse was nowhere to be seen. We have a record road
program and a record rail program. Since we have been in office, more than 50 000
jobs have been created in Western Australia.
Ms L. Mettam interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Vasse!
Mr M. McGOWAN : We are
currently debating the Western Australian Future Fund Amendment (Future Health
Research and Innovation Fund) Bill 2019, which will create jobs in science,
technology and medical research all over Western Australia. I find it a little
galling that the shadow Minister for Transport would even ask me this question.
I want to say two words to her—MAX light rail. It is three words!
Several members interjected.
Mr M. McGOWAN : There was also
Morley–Ellenbrook rail. Those are six words that set out the Liberal
Party's record. When is the shadow
Minister for Transport going to apologise for MAX light rail and Morley–Ellenbrook
rail?
Ms L. Mettam interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Vasse, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr M. McGOWAN : We are
building the Morley–Ellenbrook rail line. We have the legislation in
the Parliament. All the planning is underway. We have the money in the budget.
We are doing all those things that members opposite never did, despite the fact
that they promised it for eight and a half years. Members opposite have come in
here over recent weeks and bemoaned, criticised and condemned this project with
their fallacious arguments around some of the land that it will go through near
Whiteman Park. They then come in here and demand why we have not built it! Does
the member for Vasse not think that her lack of self-awareness might show, once
again, if the people of Western Australia needed any evidence of it, that she
is not ready for government?
Government members: Hear, hear!
