CYCLONE SEROJA — RECOVERY
358. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the
Minister for Lands:
I refer to the long-promised
workers' accommodation facility in Kalbarri to assist with cyclone
Seroja recovery.
(1) Noting the
Woods Street site in Kalbarri remains empty two years following cyclone Seroja,
when will this workers' accommodation be ready for use?
(2) What is the cost for
construction and transportation of this workforce accommodation?
(3) How is it
that Rio Tinto will deliver a 40-bed workers' camp to the Kimberley
next month, yet Kalbarri residents have been waiting two years for workers'
accommodation in their community?

I
thank the member for some notice of the question. The following response has
been provided by the Minister for Lands.
(1)–(3) The
state government has fulfilled its commitment to identify and release crown
land to support the development of workers' accommodation in Kalbarri.
A preferred proponent has been identified, which will deliver the facility. As
such, the costs and time frames associated with the construction of the
facility will be the responsibility of the preferred proponent.
