❓ A WA parliamentary question on notice seeks information regarding gas supply for the proposed Burrup Hub expansion, questioning the adequacy of identified reserves, potential supply shortfalls, and the Commonwealth's approval processes and considerations for domestic energy security. The response largely deflects the questions to other ministers.

(1) What is the total aggregate gas demand to supply the LNG export capacity of the proposed Burrup Hub facilities, including Pluto Train 1 and 3 and North West Shelf over their proposed lifetime? (2) Which gas reserves have been identified by Woodside to supply the expanded Burrup Hub? (3) What proportion of the total aggregated lifetime gas demand from the Burrup Hub would be filled by these identified reserves? (4) Where does the Commonwealth anticipate the additional gas will come from to supply the remaining lifetime gas demand for the expanded Burrup Hub? (5) Has any analysis been undertaken by the Government to determine where Woodside may source the gas from in (4)? (6) If so, will the Minister table this analysis in (5)? (7) If no to (6), why not? (8) Does the Government consider that the onshore Canning Basin could be a potential future source of gas to supply the expanded Burrup Hub? (9) If no to (8), why not? (10) Does the Government consider that further developments in the onshore Perth Basin could be a potential future source of gas to supply the expanded Burrup Hub? (11) If no to (10), why not? (12) What other undeveloped gas reserves are considered to be potential candidates to meet the demand created by the Burrup Hub? (13) Does the Commonwealth consider there will be a shortfall of gas supply between the size of the identified reserves and the size of the lifetime demand that will be created by the expanded Burrup Hub facilities? (14) If so, what is the government’s estimate of the size of this shortfall? (15) Will the Commonwealth grant approvals for Woodside to operate LNG export and processing capacity at the Burrup Hub where the company has not identified sufficient gas to meet the demand this will create? (16) Will the Commonwealth consider the impacts that approving gas export capacity far beyond the size of identified gas reserves may have on Australia’s domestic gas market and strategic energy needs, including our energy security? (17) If so, how and when will these matters be considered, under what legislative provisions and by which agency? (18) Did the Commonwealth government consider these matters when approvals were granted for LNG export facilities in Queensland? (19) If so, how were they considered, by what agency and under which legislation? (20) Will the Government table the relevant studies and analysis that was undertaken at the time? (21) Other than environmental approvals, what other approvals does Woodside require from the Commonwealth Government to operate its LNG export facilities? (22) What is the process for issuing these approvals, by which agency and under what legislation, and when is this expected to occur? (23) Do these approvals involve the consideration of strategic implications for Australia’s energy needs and energy security? (24) If no to (23), why not?
