The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) advises:
(a)
Mining operations are required to manage asbestiform minerals as per the
Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994
and Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995 and DMP guideline, "
Management of fibrous minerals in Western Australian mining operations
". It is not a requirement to submit the asbestos plan to DMP unless requested.
DMP is aware of 11 asbestos management plans currently in place at iron ore mine sites.
