(1) The standard practice accepted across the State allows firefighters to work up to 12 hours per shift. The provision of food and drink has been raised as part of the formal debrief with over 4000 meals provided to firefighters and support staff during the incident. In addition it is a standard practice during long duration fires that water is provided on a regular basis on the fire ground.
(2) Measures are already in place and well accepted across the State.
(3) Yes a formal debrief has been held which highlighted that no more than four Bush Fire Brigade crews, who formed part of the 550 firefighters involved with the Bridgetown fire, were not relieved in accordance with standard practice.
(a) It is understood that due to the magnitude of the incident at that time and in the initial stages of establishing the appropriate incident management structure, relief may not have been provided as promptly as would normally occur in a minor event.
