YOUTH SUICIDE — UNIT
18, CASUARINA PRISON — RESPONSE TIME
796. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Minister for Corrective Services:
Minister—no
apology! I have a supplementary question. Will the minister then understand why
Western Australians lack confidence in a corrections system when we have
a minister who is not across his own brief?

AnswerView source ↗

As I said, within hours on the very
morning of the incident to which the member referred, I appeared in front of the
media and provided a briefing on the situation as it was known at that time to
the Corrective Services command and to me.
That is what I did. What I can tell the member with respect to any other claims
regarding the matter is that I met with the Commissioner of Corrective
Services, Commissioner Brad Royce, yesterday in his office and he confirmed
that the internal investigation or inquiry being undertaken by Corrective
Services is not yet complete. Any claims or
references to reports are based upon incomplete information. The current
internal investigation is still ongoing. As the member is aware, a Corruption
and Crime Commission inquiry and a coroner's inquest are also
underway. All three investigations will provide far more informed reference and
comment on the incidents in question.
