Stage one of the Perth bicycle network was announced in 1996 as costing $25.565m. (1) Why do the 2000-01 budget papers list the total cost of the project as only $15.3m? (2) Can the minister explain where the missing $10m is located in the budget? (3) Can the minister advise how much has been spent on the Perth bicycle network to date? Hon M.J. CRIDDLE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The $15.3m shown in the 2000-01 budget papers is only part of Main Roads’ contribution towards the Perth bicycle network. (2) The total contribution towards the Perth bicycle network program comprises the following from Main Roads WA: $15.3m for the Perth bicycle network; $1.6m, Loftus Street; $0.5m, Tonkin Highway; and $2.5m in Graham Farmer Freeway associated transport measures. The Department of Transport’s contribution is $3.2m. Local government’s contribution is $2.5m. This is a total of $25.6m. (3) Expenditure to 1999-2000 totals $16.2m.
