Residential battery scheme—Hybrid converter
1063. Hon Dr Steve Thomas to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation:
I refer to the
government's requirements and compliance costs for the connection of
alternating current (AC) coupled households proposing to install batteries to
the South West Interconnected System under the government's floundering WA residential
battery scheme.
(1) What percentage of residential AC supply recipients
in the SWIS who want to install a new solar panel and battery system are
installing a hybrid inverter?
(2) What was the average cost of an inverter for a
battery installed on an AC residential system and the average cost of a hybrid
inverter?
(3) To what extent has the need for inverter
upgrades to AC-supplied residences delayed the rollout of the WA residential
battery scheme?
(4) Given the scheme paid for only 4,605 battery
rebates in its first four and a half months, or about a thousand a month, how
long will it take to deliver all 100,000 rebates on offer?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) Data for the month of October shows that 90%
of applications to Western Power indicated that a hybrid inverter is being
installed.
(2) It is not possible to provide an average cost
due to the number of variables involved, noting that inverters are packaged
with other products.
(3) The need for inverter upgrades has not delayed
the rollout.
(4) The estimated 100,000 rebates are expected to
be allocated within timeframes consistent with the federal government's scheme,
which will run until 2030.
