South West Interconnected System—Peak demand
1234. Hon Dr Steve Thomas to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation:
I refer to the
electricity that the South West Interconnected System will require to maintain
supply at peak demand over the impending 2025–26 summer, and to the
minister's answer to my question without notice 1224, asked on 4 December 2025,
which confirmed that the government had only signed offtake agreements for 108 megawatts
of solar and wind energy over the last five years.
(1) Is Synergy currently in discussions or
negotiating for any additional solar or wind offtake agreements over the next
five years?
(2) If yes to (1), what is the total new capacity
in megawatts that Synergy is seeking under offtake agreements for wind and
solar projects in each financial year from 2025–26 to 2029–30?
(3) If the minister does not know the answer to
(2), will this information be delivered by the now long-delayed whole-of-system
plan in late 2027?
