The Minister Replied:
(1)The Western Australia Police Service does not purchase fuel at retail prices. All fuel is purchased at contract prices listed under the existing Government Fuel Contract (CAMS contract No 3998).
(a) The contract price of petrol varies in accordance with the type of petrol purchased and the pricing structure offered by the respective oil companies under the contract. WA Police Service vehicles mainly use unleaded petrol.
(b)The contract price of diesel also varies dependant upon the pricing structure offered by the respective oil companies, with the exception of BP Australia which offers the only fixed contract price per month. The price for October 2000 is $1.0207 in the Metropolitan area, $1.0427 for the remainder of the State south of the 25th parallel (both low sulphur diesel) and $1.0412 for the remainder of the State north of the 25th parallel.
(2) It is understood that an opportunity may exist for the WA Police Service to have a portion of its diesel fuel costs refunded under the Diesel and Alternative Fuel Grant Scheme (Commonwealth Government). Eligibility within the rebate scheme is currently being explored.
